TALES FROM A NOT-SO-POPULAR PARTY GIRL is book two of the Dork Diaries series. If you haven't read book one, TALES FROM A NOT-SO-FABULOUS LIFE, read that one first. That's where I started and the series just keeps getting better.
In book two, Nikki had hoped to be asked to the Halloween dance by her secret crush, Brandon. When she overhears MacKenzie telling her friends Brandon had asked her, she decided to spend Halloween at her little sister's party. Nikki discovered this was a lie when Brandon asks her to the dance. She accepted, but kept it a secret from her friends, Chloe and Zoe. (They didn't have dates and she didn't want to make them feel bad.)
Later, Chloe and Zoe want to go as a group, still feeling guilty about being the only one having a date she plays along. Now Nikki has two parties, plus a secret date. Not only will have to find a way to balance her problems, MacKenzie is a constant problem.
Like the first book, this one is written in a diary-style format with neat artwork. It reminds me of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, but for girls. My daughter did enjoy that series too, but loves the Dork Diaries better. She says it's cuter and more emotional. She has grown really attached to Nikki. We both give it a five star rating and look forward to book three!
